Introduction:- |
In order to keep pace with the global technological advancement and to meet the demands and challenges of present and future environment, our college decided to establish the department of microbiology in the academic year 2009-2010The department is well equipped with modern facilities to meet the requirements of microbiology course. |

Scope and importance:- |
Microbiology often has been defined as the study of organisms and agents too small to be seen clearly by the unaided eye- that is, the study of microorganisms. Microbiology is main branch of biotechnology.Microbiology has both basic and applied aspects. The basic aspects are concerned with the biology of microorganisms themselves and include such fields as bacteriology, virology, mycology (study of fungi), phycology or algology (study of algae), protozoology, microbial cytology and physiology, microbial genetics and molecular biology, microbial taxonomy. The applied aspects are concerned with practical problems such as disease, water and wastewater treatment, food spoilage and food production, and industrial uses of microbes.Microbiologists are faced with many exciting and important future challenges. New infectious diseases are continually arising and old diseases are once again becoming widespread and destructive e.g. AIDS, SARS, Swine flu etc. Microbial ecologists are employing microorganisms in bioremediation to reduce pollution. Microorganisms are increasingly important in industry and environmental control, and we must learn how to use them in a variety of new ways.Microbiologists are required in quality control like in food industry, dairy industry, wine industry. They have great scope in pharmaceuticals, in medical labs etc. They are also required in waste water treatment and in drinking water treatment. |
