About the Department |

The department started in the year 1964. The subject was taught at general level till 1968 and at special level from 1969. Prof. V.N. Kuber, Prof. K.C. Cholkar and Prof. D.S. Shelke headed the department in the past. At present Prof. V.D. Awari is the head of the department. Prof. Deore S.M. has recently joined the department. Majority of the students of the college belong to the rural area so many of them prefer this subject at special level as they are interested in local political activity. They find the subject interesting and close to their day-to-day life. This department is guiding the students for various competitive and SET-NET examinations. It has a very good record of results. Many past students are actively participating in various social, political and government organization. One student stood first in the university in the subject.Prof. V.D. Awari worked as N.S.S. programme officer for 13 years. He was awarded ‘The Best Programme Officer’ by University of Pune. The village adopted by the N.S.S. unit of the college won the ‘Nirmalgram Puraskar’ of Govt. of Maharashtra. |

Scope & Importance |

The subject has wide scope in all spheres of life. It is one of the important subjects in the context of foreign affairs. The subject has not only state level but national importance. The subject has importance in the life of a layman as it deals with the political set up of the country. It is also related to the constitutional practices taking place in the society. Hence the subject is related to the common man as well as a research scholar. The students of political science have scope in Governmental, semi governmental and private sector also. Students can also contribute the NGO’S. |
